College Prep Handbook

 

JUNIOR YEAR

 

Keep working hard!  Your junior year is very important! 

 

Sept.-Nov.

·        Meet with college reps/recruiters that visit Trinity.

·        Attend College Fairs, the Future's Fair and visit schools.

·        Visit as many colleges as you can during your junior year.

·        Take the PSAT in Oct (National Merit qualifying and SAT practice).

·        Take a practice ACT in Oct.

·        Become familiar with the format and content of both tests.  Prepare for the tests with a self-study program or through Trinity's ACT course.

·        Write, email or call colleges for information.

·        Start a college file.

 

Dec.-Feb.

·        Register to take the ACT at least once or twice during the           spring/summer.  Consider taking the SAT also.

·        Work on weaknesses identified by your ACT and PSAT scores.

·        Write for ROTC and service academy scholarship application packets, summer programs (academies) and begin pre-candidacy registration, if applicable.  BEGIN THIS PROCESS EARLY YOUR JR. YEAR

·        Make a preliminary list of 10-20 "potential colleges.”

 

Mar.-May

·        Continue college visits. 

·        Narrow your list to 5-10 colleges.

 

June-Aug.

·        Visit colleges throughout the summer, if necessary.

·        Work on college essays.

·        Complete college applications, if available. (check online)

·        Register with the NCAA, if pursing sports (Div. I or II)

·        Update your resume.  Prepare an athletic resume, if applicable.

·        Continue volunteer, work, study and extracurricular activities.
